MXit is a mobile instant messenger and a mobile social network that taps into and is exploited by both young users and enterprises in the South African mobility landscape. In the latter case, it engages enterprises both as business partners and as standalone clients. For example, enterprises use it as a platform through which to advertise and market their offerings to MXit's users and as a medium for promoting brand awareness and enhancement. In addition, banking institutions use it as a deployment and delivery platform, enabling MXit's mostly unbanked users to engage in mobile micro-transactions and mobile banking.
