摘要

Our commemoration of Heinz's birth centenary touches on a theme that he returned to often, the notion of "undecidable" questions and the opportunities that these provide for us to decide. A surprising experience that we shared while riding on a train together provided a moment of insight into one such question, the undecidability of reaching certainty in our agreements about the facts of shared experience. Against the background of easily shared assumptions about the realities of everyday existence, puzzling problems often intrude that cast this shared reality into question. Our contribution is offered as a reflection on this and similar themes as part of our celebration of Heinz's centennial year.
