The title of this issue is "Digging for Roots." The articles and column for this issue all have the common quality of re-addressing the roots of one of the traditions or disciplines relevant to this journal's garden of interests. This is the last issue for which I will be writing a foreword, as I am resigning as Managing Editor of this journal after this issue is completed. Taking over the tasks of Managing Editor will be Carlos Vidales. The journal will be in good hands with him, as he is closely involved with the transdisciplinary movement of cybersemiotics. He is a faculty member at the Universidad de Guadalajara, Departamento de Estudios de la Comunicacion Social. I will be consulting with the journal and will continue to be its liaison with the American Society for Cybernetics. I also plan to continue providing an occasional article or book report in the future. I have enjoyed writing these forewords for this journal, a task which has enabled me to synthesize the varied perspectives of our authors and to think more deeply about what their work has to say.
