The ability of extracts of cellular biomass of certain medicinal plants to inhibit spontaneous segregation of tumors in a system of MS2-induced unstable mutations in E. coli is established. The newly discovered effect is analyzed from the point of view of the stabilizing activity of the extracts relative to membranes of the bacterial wall. The possibility of utilizing this bacterial system for studying the stabilizing effect as an individual stage of the protective action of known antimutagens is discussed.
