Transforming a manual ice cream line to an automated solution, capable of loading single serve cartons and bigger cases in single or multi flavour configurations, was the project presented to Cama. The main challenge was coping with several different loading configurations (from four up to 25 products per carton) with all the potential declinations of single, double and four-flavour mixtures. Another issue was in fitting all the installation and startup activities within the small production stop for maintenance of the upstream equipment. Once removal of the manual packaging line was complete, there was no buffer for putting in place the new equipment and bringing it up to the acceptable level of production efficiency.
