Despite an unprecedented level of consolidation in the UK dairy industry over the past ten years, there is still room for smaller players. Tims Dairy, based in Buckinghamshire, is one such example. Although the company is still small compared to the likes of Arla and Robert Wiseman — turnover is expected to hit a record £4 million (?6 million) this year — it has expanded rapidly over the past few years. The business spans back 50 years, and was originally set up to supply the ethnic Cypriot market with Greek yogurt. Its products were sold in ethnic stores, but the company found that second generation Cypriots tend to shop in supermarkets, and so it moved into new areas and continued to expand.
