Handicapping technologies is a bit like playing the stock market: You make your investment, enjoy the upswings, and ride out the rough times-all the while remembering that fortunes are made over the long haul. A few years ago, ATM's stock was way up. The technology was billed as the grand unifying force in networking. But these days, most folks are selling it short.
