Recently, I attended the Asian Online Information Meeting in Hong Kong. Organized by the U.K.'s Learned Information, it brought together information professionals from most countries in Southeast Asia plus a smattering of librarians from China, Australia, New Zealand, and the U.K. As a revelatory experience, it gets high marks from me. Papers by several librarians from Asian Universities and corporations underscored how our information globe is shrinking. Clearly, the Internet erases territorial boundaries. The point was hammered home over and over again: Peoples' desire for information has nothing whatever to do with geography.
