A significant factor in the future success of the automotive electronics aftermarket is the quality and professionalism of installation technicians performing work on customer vehicles. Whether it occurs in a large chain retailer, an independent retail operation or a mobile installation business, a good installation experience can make a lifetime customer. On the other hand, a bad experience can easily form a long-lasting, negative impression of the entire industry. Many retailers and installation technicians leverage the Mobile Electronics Certified Professional (MECP) installation technician certification levels to distinguish themselves as a professional operation. For those who have many years of in-vehicle experience, the probability of delivering a credible and quality installation is within reasonable expectations. When it's not delivered, it's often a matter of a company culture that does not encourage quality installation (a.k.a., The Rush Job), or simply technicians that repeat bad installation habits, even if they know better. While that may simplify the divide between employed installation technicians, what is the industry looking toward for the next generation of technicians?
