The paper lays bare the security challenges faced by Pakistan and has highlighted issues that need to be addressed from within and also areas where others have to play a significant role. National security can be compromised either through naked external aggression or a break-down of law and order from within. Of the two factors, naked aggression, USA's Iraq invasion notwithstanding, is becoming increasingly rare in the 21st Century but this is not to suggest that external influence will not come into play if one's own house is in disorder. Alleviation of poverty and provision of justice and fair play. through good governance therefore is the key to enhancement of security of a nation state of today.
