The dramatic growth of air transport globally, along with the significant technological complexity of the entire aviation industry, have rendered aviation an attractive target for terrorist attacks. Attacks to aircraft are not a new phenomenon, with the earliest hijacking dating back to 1931. However, it was only after the tragic attacks of 9/11 that aviation security received the attention that it required on an international level. Joseph. S. Szyliowicz and Luca Zamparini - the editors in chief - notably succeeded in bringing together authors from every part of the world in order to discuss the main issues and challenges that aviation security is currently facing. Air Transport Security: Issues, Challenges and National Policies elegantly addresses the international policy development of aviation security, while scrutinising and discussing the major technological, economic and legal issues concerning threats in aviation. Furthermore, the contributors meticulously focus on the most immediate challenges of aviation security, with particular attention to regional and national interesting scenarios.
