The summer of 2006 proved ever hotter for the people of Lebanon when in July Israel launched heavy offensives against Hezbollah on the plea that Hezbollah had captured two of its soldiers. The subsequent weeks proved an ordeal for the whole nation. This war finally ended when the UNSC unanimously passed Resolution 1701 and a ceasefire took in the region. Not to mention, during the war Israel received all kind of support from the US that included military, political and diplomatic. In fact the US gave a free hand to Israel to inflict unprecedented damage in terms of infrastructure as well as of human causalities.
