Pakistan is under great stress since it has become an active partner of the US in the war on terror. Stephen Cohen in his book "The Idea of Pakistan" makes it very explicit about the US-Pakistan relationship: "The current relationship is best described as the partnership of uncertain duration and employing a joint objective". We certainly cannot afford to sever relations with USA but it is important that we are cognizant of the reality and do not live in a wishful paradigm. It is India which enjoys strategic partnership with the US, with the ostensible purpose to contain China. Islamophobia is the current US doctrine, no doubt, but it does not mean that China is out of the strategic radar of USA.
