The growth of Contracting for Availability (CFA) agreements within MoD procurement is widening the involvement of contractor logistical support to the extent that suppliers are now taking on not only the through life maintenance of the equipment they sell, but also the day-to-day management of the asset.rnThe concept derives from the US Department of Defense's Performance-Based Logistics initiative, introduced in the 1990s, with the aims of cutting the size of the services' logistics chains, reducing their costs and investing the money saved into the front line.
