Electronic books are the focus of agreat deal of attention recently.Weekly, there seems to be anotherpopular article or news reportabout students’ use of e-books [1]or the ways e-books will affectpersonal reading [2]. In the librarycommunity, we see numerous articlesin professional journalsabout the use of print versuselectronic books [3], among otherrelated topics. A recent presentationby James Michalko of OCLCreported that publishers expectto provide between 75% and 90%of books in digital format within5 years [4]. In our own little cornerof the world, we enjoyed lastfall’s Medical Library Associationwebcast on the ‘‘ABCs’’ of e-booksand blog posts from MichelleKraft, AHIP, reflecting on issuesrelating to e-books in more depth[5]. Health sciences librariansare struggling to understand thisnew medium and how to integrateit into collections that areseverely strained by years of tightbudgets.
