President Pouyat thanked Liz Biggs for serving as Interim Executive Director and the entireESA staff for their efforts during the transition between Executive Directors, to enthusiastic andappreciative applause from the Governing Board (GB). Efforts to develop and launch the Extendingthe Tent initiative being developed by an ad hoc committee are underway with brainstorming andexploring ideas and suggestions, and development of unified strategies, including the considerationof financial and staff commitments. Pouyat also reported on the Policy Training that was spon-sored by the Mid- Atlantic Chapter of ESA held at Bowie State University, November 2–3, whichwas very successful, and on the meeting of the Mid- Atlantic Chapter held at Rutgers University-Newark. The Katherine McCarter Policy Awards were presented at an all- day event that includedinformation on communication with Congress and a visit to the Hill to meet with CongressionalRepresentatives and Senators.
