Adenomyosisisabenignpathologicdisorderoftheuterineendometrialtissueswherebyendometrialcomponents,suchasglandsandstroma,invadethemyometrium.TransplantationofasingleanteriorpituitaryglandintotheuterinelumeninducedadenomyosisinsixofeightWistarrats12monthsafterthegrafting.Adenomyoticchangeswerenotobservedinsixsham-operatedcontrolrats.Electronmicroscopicobservationsindicatedthatcellsoftheinnerlayerofthemyometriumwerereducedinsizeandirregularlyshapedintheareasbearingadenomyoticchanges.Inpituitary-graftedrats,healthycorporalutearemainedintheovaries,whereascontrolratshaddegeneratingovaries.Thesefindingsareconsistentwiththeresultsofpituitary-graftedmicereportedpreviouslyandsupportourassertionthatahormonalmilieuinducedbypituitarygraftingisfavorablefordevelopmentofuterineadenomyosis.
