Angiogenicfactorssuchasvascularendothelialgrowthfactor(VEGF)areimplicatedinpulmonaryhypertension(PH).However,thepathwayofangiogenicfactor-mediatedpathologicangiogenesisinPHremainsunclear.Inthisstudy,weevaluatedthetemporalexpressionofangiopoietin(Ang)1,Ang2,andtheirreceptor(Tie2)aswellasVEGF,endothelialnitricoxidesynthase(eNOS),inducibleNOS(iNOS),andhemeoxygenase1(HO1)inthemonocrotaline-inducedPHmodel.Histologicevaluationshowedpathologicvascularremodelinginthearteriesoflungsections1wkaftermonocrotalinetreatment.ProteinlevelsofAng1,Ang2,eNOS,iNOS,HO1,andVEGFwereincreased1wkaftermonocrotalinetreatmentbutTie2proteinlevelsweredecreased2wkafterward.TheseresultssuggestthatAng2mediatesvascularremodelinginPHbydecreasingTie2expression.Therefore,theAng#8211;Tie2systemmayplayaroleinthepathophysiologyofPH.
