Sevenchimpanzeeswereinoculatedintra-articularlywithoneofthreeMycoplasmaspecies.Threechimpanzeeswereinoculatedwithclinicalsynovialisolate1620,andonewasinoculatedwithtypestrainPG-21ofM.hominis.Thefifthanimalwasinoculatedwithclinicalsynovialisolate2010B,andthesixthwasinoculatedwiththetypestrainCOofUreaplasmaurealyticum.TheseventhanimalwasinoculatedwithclinicalisolatePI-1428ofM.pneumoniae.Thesynovialisolatesinducedintenseantibodyresponses,antibodiesrecognizedmoreantigens,andthereactiveantigensweredistinctfromthecorrespondingtypestrains.Chimpanzeesinfectedwithsynovialisolate1620,butnottypestrainPG-21,recognizedantigensofmolecularmass223,208,168,165,155,150,142,134,115,105,52,50,45,38,and36kDa.Thechimpanzeeinfectedwithsynovialisolate2010B,butnottypestrainCO,recognizedantigensatabout277,237,62,57,and43kDa.ThemajorantibodyreactiveantigensofM.pneumoniaeisolatePI-1428migratedatabout170,90,56,40,32,and30kDa.ThereportedbiologicactivitiesofantigenicproteinsderivedfromtheseMycoplasmaspeciesarereviewed.
