Accordingtoserologictesting,murinenorovirusisthemostprevalentviralpathogenincontemporarylaboratorymice.Previously,murinenorovirus1(MNV-1)wastheonlynorovirusreportedtoinfectresearchmice.Inthisstudy,3novelmurinenorovirusstrains#8212;MNV-2,MNV-3,andMNV-4#8212;wereisolatedfromgeographicallyseparatemouseresearchcolonies.All4murinenorovirusstrainsusedasindividualantigensinmicrospherefluorescentimmunoassaysdisplayedserologiccross-reactivitytoserumfrommiceinoculatedwithMNV-1,MNV-2,MNV-3,orMNV-4.Inaddition,reversetranscriptase#8211;polymerasechainreactionanalysisat8wkpostinoculationdetectedvirusinthefecesandtissuesofallmiceexperimentallyinoculatedwithMNV-2,MNV-3,orMNV-4.Thisfindingsuggeststhatmicecanhaveprolongedfecalsheddingofandcanbecomepersistentlyinfectedwithmurinenoroviruses.
