ANTIBIOGRAM PATTERN OF BACTERIAL PATHOGENS FROM ASYMPTOMATIC BACTERIURIA

The study was carried out to determine the prevalence and bacteriologic agents of asymptomatic UTIs among immunologically active young girls, age group ranges between 18 and 23 years. The 109 urine samples collected from female student populations showed 15.59 % prevalence of asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB). The high prevalence of ASB in young girls is of major public health importance. Among them E. coli was very predominant (48.8%) following Pseudomonas (15.55%), Proteus sp., (13.33%), Klebsiella sp., (11.11%) and Staphylococcus aureus (11.11%). The predominant pathogen in this study is beginning to acquire resistance to some of the clinically used antibiotics. Out of 17 asymptomatic bacterial isolates 7 showed multi-drug resistances. Chloramphenicol was most effective and Ampicillin and Lincocin were least effectively
