摘要

In the municipality of Itaara there are some land use conflicts mainly due to the irregular occupation in preservation areas, like headsprings, riparian forests, lakes and slopes. In this respect, the study of environmental zoning is important because it can be used as an management instrument of natural resources, reducing the effects of environment degradation. It was evaluated the existing environmental deterioration in the municipality through the evaluation of seven environmental parameters: declivity, draining density, roughness coefficient, vegetation, human habitation, human anthropic action and agricultural cultivation. The city was divided into 213 environmental units and in each one the parameters were measured. By means of evaluation of data obtained we allocated and tabulated pondered values. With these values the equation of deterioration to each unit was determined, thus defining four environmental classes: Permanent Preservation Area, Permanent Conservation Area, Restoration Area and Area of Use and Occupation. Environmental Zoning is one of the instruments of the National Policy for the Environment. Once it serves as a subsidy for the environmental planning of the municipality it must be used to orientate and control the urban development, ensuring in that way the sustainability of ecosystems.
