Effect of flash lamp pulsed dye laser on discoid lupus erythematosus lesions

The treatment of discoid lupus erythematosus with pulsed dye has beenevaluated in recent years. The improvement of telangiectasia anderythema in cutaneous lesions was based on selective photothermolysisablation of the dilated capillaries and venules .While the improvementin scar and atrophy was referred to the effect of pulsed dye laser oncollagenase activity. We describe the results of discoid lupuserythematosus (DLE) lesions of 62 patients; they received treatmentwith FPDL (585nm, 450µsec) with fluences ranged from 6.75 to7.75J/cm².The overall clearance rate was 67.5%. Relapse hadoccurred in 7 patients. Few side effects were observed in the form ofhyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation. We confirm that pulsed dye laser is a good alternative treatment for discoid lupus erythematosus lesions.
