Fake or predatory journals have mushroomed during the recentpast and become a real treat to the credible journals andpublishers. The “online open access” policy, when introduced adecade ago, was welcomed by the scientific community as apositive step in the dissemination of knowledge especiallyto regions with financial constraints. Fake journals are abyproduct of this policy and the industry is a lucrative businessnow.
