Genetic polymorphism of 29 STR loci in the Hunan Han population from China

The Han population accounts for the majority of theChinese population. Hunan is a large province locatedat 108 ? 47 0 –114 ? 15 0 E and 30 ? 08 0 –24 ? 38 0 N in SouthernChina, specifically in the area in the middle reaches ofYangtze River. The province has a total area of218 400km 2 and a population of 72 million. The Hanpopulation of the province is approximately 59.15 mil-lion [1]. In this study, we evaluated the allele frequen-cies and forensic parameters of 29 short tandem repeat(STR) loci by using two commercial kits (Goldeneye TM20A kit and Investigator HDplex kit). Bloodstainspecimens were obtained from 501 unrelated healthyindividuals (with informed consent) from the Hanpopulation of the Hunan Province, China. TheGoldeneye TM 20A kit (PeopleSpot Inc., Beijing, China)includes the amelogenin locus and 19 autosomal loci(i.e. D19S433, D5S818, D21S11, D18S51, D6S1043,D3S1358, D13S317, D7S820, D16S539, CSF1PO, PentaD, vWA, D8S1179, TPOX, Penta E, TH01, D12S391,D2S1338, and FGA). The Investigator HDplex kit(Qiagen, Hilden, Germany) contains the amelogeninlocus, one CODIS (D18S51), and 11 Non-CODIS loci(i.e. D2S1360, D3S1744, D4S2366, D5S2500, SE33,D6S474, D7S1517, D8S1132, D10S2325, D12S391 andD21S2055). Both kits contain D18S51 and D12S391,which can be used for sample concordance.
