Abstract：Objective To evaluate the delicacy management in nursing of patients with the peripheral venous catheter. Methods A total of 629 patients with the peripheral venous catheter were recruited as the control group between January 2015 and June 2015, receiving conventional nursing care. Another 673 patients were enrolled as the observation group between July 2015 and December 2015, receiving delicacy nursing management. The incidences of catheter block, catheter induced phlebitis and extravasation, as well as indwelling time, was compared between two groups. Results The incidence of catheter block, catheter induced phlebitis and extravasation was 8.3%, 7.4% and 3.0% in the observation group, and was 13.1%, 10.8% and 5.6% in the control group(P＜0.05 or P＜0.01). The averaged indwelling time was significant longer in the observation group than that of the control group (P＜0.05). Conclusion Delicacy nursing management is effective to prolong the indwelling time and reduce the incidence of catheter induced complications in patients with the peripheral venous catheter.
