Abstract:Objective To investigate the efficacy of low glycemic index dietary regimen in dietary education for elderly type 2 diabetic patients. Methods A total of 80 type 2 diabetic patients who were administrated with oral hypoglycemic agents were randomly divided into the control group and the study group, with 40 cases in each group. The control group was performed with dietary education based on normal dietary regimen, while the study group was given dietary education based on low glycemic index dietary regimen. The dietary education lasted for there months. The body mass index (BMI), levels of blood glucose, blood lipid and Proteinrelated nutrition indicators before and after intervention were observed and compared between two groups. Results Levels of fasting blood glucose(FBG), 2 h postprandial blood glucose(2 hPBG), hemoglobin A1c (HbAlc), triglyceride (TG) and BMI were decreased in both of two groups after intervention (P<0.01), and were significantly lower in the study group than those of controls (P<0.01). There was no significant difference in total cholesterol (TC), transferrin(TRF), albumin(ALB) or Prealbumin(PA) between two groups after intervention (P>0.05). Conclusion During dietary education for elderly type 2 diabetic patients, a low glycemic index dietary regimen can help patients to control the blood lipid and glucose levels, and to reduce the body weight.
