Abstract:Objective To investigate the core competence of clinical nurses form certain primarylevel hospital and to analyze the related influence factors, in order to provide evidence for core competence training.  Methods  The investigation based on questionnaire of competency inventory for registered nurse(CIRN) were performed in 318 clinical nurses form certain primarylevel hospital. The overall and each dimension score of CIRN between   nurses with different age, occupational age, professional title, employment, marital status, participation in teaching and level of professional interest were compared. Results   The overall score of CIRN was (128.47±39.56), with (20.77±7.14) in critical thinking/research, (19.98±6.71) in clinical nursing, (23.35±7.70) in leadership competence, (17.89±5.81) in interpersonal relationship, (18.23±5.91) in law ethical practice, (12.98±455) in professional development and (15.21±5.44) in educational counseling. There were significant difference in overall and each dimension score of CIRN between nurses with different age, occupational age, professional title, employment, marital status, participation in teaching and level of professional interest. (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Conclusion  This investigational study shows a intermediate level of core competence of nurses. The adjusting measures focusing on weakness points should be carried out to improve the comprehensive capacity of clinical nurses form certain primarylevel hospital.
