Theeffectsofxylanaseandphytasesupplementationonenergydigestibility,siteofnutrientdigestion,andpHcontentinthegastrointestinaltract(GIT)andongrowthperformancewerestudiedindietswithreducednutrientspecificationsfedtoweanedpigs.Theexperimentwasdesignedasa2x2factorialplusapositivecontroldietcontaining14.65MJdigestibleenergy(DE)/kg,0.65%totalphosphorous(P),and0.80%calcium(Ca).PhosphorousandCacontentswerereducedby10%andtheDEcontentby0.62MJ/kgintheother4diets.Weanedpigs(8.6±0.5kginitialbodyweight)werefed1of5dietsfor21d.Feedinganutrientreduceddietloweredtotaltractenergydigestibility.XylanaseandphytaseimprovedthetotaltractDEcontentofthenegativecontroldiet(NC).XylanaseimprovedenergydigestibilityofNCinthemidjejunumandoverthetotaltractby63.0and4.6%respectively.PhytaseimprovedtheDEcontentofNCby0.64MJ/kg.FeedinganutrientreduceddiettendedtoreducethepHcontentoftheuppersmallintestine(SI),andphytaseraisedthepHcontentoftheuppermidSI.Overallphytaseimprovedbodyweight(BW)andtheaveragedailygain(ADG)ofNC.XylanaseandphytaseimprovedtotaltractDEcontentandgrowthperformanceofweanedpigsfednutrientreduceddiets.PhytaseinclusionledtoafasterreturntoalkalineconditionsintheupperSI.Exogenousenzymescanbeusedtoimprovedigestibilityofnutrient-reduceddietsbasedonwheatandmillrunforweanedpigs.
