Background:Besidethestructuralandmanagerialreformsinhealthsystem,highconsiderationsaredevotedtothefinancialarrangements.Reformingfinancialarrangementsofhealthsystems,methodofpaymenttohealthservicesprovidershasalwaysbeenoneofthemostimportantissues.Objectives:Inthisarticlewehavestudiedtheexperienceofusinganovelpaymentmethodina€?FamilyPhysicianPrograma€?inIran.MaterialsandMethods:WehavereviewedtheofficialdocumentsofMinistryofhealthandmedicaleducationandthea€?MedicalServicesInsuranceOrganizationa€?ofIranasdatasources.Results:PaymentmethodthatusedforfamilyphysicianprograminIranisamixedpaymentmethodinwhichcapitationfee,fixedmonthlysalary,deductibles,franchises,performancebasedpayments,andevenbounces(asanincentivepayment)areusedsimultaneously.Conclusions:MixedPaymentMethodhasthepotentialofusingthebenefitsofeachpaymentmethods,andminimizingtheirdefects.Italsohastheriskofencounteringthedefectsofallpaymentmechanisms.
