High-dispersion,high-$$mathrm{S/N}$$spectroscopicobservationsofSN2002apinM74werecarriedoutinthewavelengthrangeof4120a€“6860$$,{?…}$$usingtheHighDispersionSpectrographoftheSubaruTelescope.NeitheremissionnorabsorptionfeaturesrelatingtoSN2002apitselfwereidentifiedinthehigh-dispersionechellespectrum,butapairofNaID1andD2absorptionlinesweredetectedataredshiftcorrespondingtothediskofM74,andeachwasfoundtoshowthreecomponents.Thecolumndensitiesofthesecomponentsarelog$$N(mathrm{Na{I}})=11.47$$,10.47,and10.72forthefirst,second,andthirdcomponents,respectively.TheinterstellarreddeninginM74wasestimatedfromthesecomponents,andwascombinedwiththatintheGalaxytoyieldatotalvalueof$$E(B-V)=0.09pm0.01$$alongthelineofsighttoSN2002ap.
