WepresentastudyofthenewlydiscoveredMcNeila€?snebulainOrionusingsimultaneousobservationsofthe$$JHK_{mathrm{s}}$$-bandswiththenear-infrared(NIR)cameraSIRIUSontheIRSF1.4mtelescope.ThecometaryinfrarednebulaisclearlyseenextendingtowardbothnorthandsouthfromtheNIRsource(V1647Orionis),whichilluminatesMcNeila€?snebula.Thecompactnebulahasanapparentdiameterofabout$$70{}^{primeprime}$$.Thenebulaisblue(brightin$$J$$)andhasacavitystructurewithtworimsextendingtowardthenorth-eastandthenorth-west.Thenorth-eastrimisbrighterandsharp,whilethenorth-westrimisdiffuse.Thenorth-eastrimcanbetracedoutto$$sim40{{}^{primeprime}}$$fromthelocationoftheNIRsource.Incontrast,nocavitystructurecanbeseentowardthesouth,althoughthediffusenebulaisextendedoutto$$sim20{{}^{primeprime}}$$.NewNIRphotometricdatashowasignificantvariationinthemagnitudes($$gt0.15,mathrm{mag}0.15,mathrm{mag}$$)ofthesourceofMcNeila€?snebulawithinaperiodofoneweek,whichispossiblyunderthephaseoferuptivevariables,likeFUorsorEXors.
