Subaru Weak-Lensing Survey II: Multi-Object Spectroscopy and Cluster Masses

Wepresentthefirstresultsofamulti-objectspectroscopiccampaigntofollowupclustercandidateslocatedviaweaklensing.Ourmaingoalsaretosearchforspatialconcentrationsofgalaxiesthatareplausibleopticalcounterpartsoftheweak-lensingsignals,andtodeterminetheclusterredshiftsfromthoseofmembergalaxies.Aroundeachof36targetedclustercandidates,weobtained15a€“32galaxyredshifts.For28ofthesetargets,weconfirmedasecureclusteridentification,withmorethanfivespectroscopicgalaxieswithinavelocityof$$pm$$3000kms$$^{-1}$$.Thisincludesthreecaseswheretwoclustersatdifferentredshiftsareprojectedalongthesameline-of-sight.In6ofthe8unconfirmedtargets,wefoundmultiplesmallgalaxyconcentrationsatdifferentredshifts,eachcontainingatleastthreespectroscopicgalaxies.Theweak-lensingsignalaroundthosesystemswasthusprobablycreatedbytheprojectionofgroupsorsmallclustersalongthesameline-of-sight.Inbothoftheremainingtwotargets,asinglesmallgalaxyconcentrationwasfound.Insomecandidatesuper-clustersystems,wefoundadditionalevidenceoffilamentsconnectingthemaindensitypeaktoanadditionalnearbystructure.Forasubsampleofourmostcleanlymeasuredclusters,weinvestigatedthestatisticalrelationbetweentheirweak-lensingmass($$M_{ mNFW}$$,$$sigma_{ mSIS}$$)andthevelocitydispersionoftheirmembergalaxies($$sigma_{v}$$),comparingoursamplewithopticallyandX-rayselectedsamplesfromtheliterature.Ourlensing-selectedclustersareconsistentwith$$sigma_v$$$$=$$$$sigma_{ mSIS}$$,withasimilarscattertothatofopticallyandX-rayselectedclusters.Wealsoderivedanempiricalrelationbetweentheclustermassandthegalaxyvelocitydispersion,$$M_{200}E$$($$z$$)$$=$$11.0$$ imes$$10$$^{14}$$$$ imes$$($$sigma_v/$$1000kms$$^{-1}$$)$$^{3.0}h^{-1}M_odot$$,whichisinreasonableagreementwithpredictionsof$$N$$-bodysimulationsinthe$$Lambda$$CDMcosmology.
