With the rapid development of computer technology,videoconferencing has been widelyapplied for social and educational purposes.Issues relevant to the use of videoconferencingin second-language instruction have beenraised and researched. However, little attentionhas been paid to videoconferencing projectsimplemented outside class for elementaryschool students, particularly in the efl context.To fill the gap, the current study aims tocontribute to our understanding of the outof-class videoconferencing language-learningactivities for young learners by exploringhow 40 native English-speaking teachers perceivedout-of-class videoconferencing in learningEnglish by elementary school students inTaiwan. Data consisted of teacher responses toa post-videoconference survey with open-endedquestions. Through qualitative, inductive, andinterpretive analysis of the data, the studyidentified three emerging themes: uneven studentperformance, technical issues, and suggestionsfor the videoconferencing activity. Thestudy contributes to our understanding ofthe videoconferencing experience of languageteachers and broadens our understandingof implementing videoconference activities.Further research could explore teacher metacompetence(Guichon, 2009) by analyzing videotapedvideoconferencing sessions.
