The article discusses the work of secretariat professionals in the context of the management of Graduate Studies Programs ( stricto sensu ) in education in the Southern Region of Brazil. The research aims to investigate the professional performance of the secretaries of Graduate Studies Programs in Education in the Southern Region of Brazil in order to gather information that could give visibility to the action of these Secretariat professionals. Likewise, it seeks to subsidize a reflection of these professionals and the programs in which they act concerning these Secretariat professionals′ labor practices aiming at the improvement of management processes and practices within the scope of the masters and doctoral degress in education from the Secretariat's perspective. The methodology consisted of an exploratory-descriptive survey. This work is justified because the lack of analysis about the management of human resources dedicated to the production of research in the context of graduate studies in relation to Secretaries′ competencies. We present and discuss an initial list of the main activities carried out by these professionals considering the Sucupira Platform requirements, which is the basis for the graduation studies program evaluation system in education in Brazil.
