Wereportasimpleroutetosynthesizederosionresistantepoxy-basednanocompositecoatings.Thesilicananoparticlesweresurfacedmodifiedusingstearicacidandthenincorporatedintotheepoxycoating.Theresultingnanocompositecoatingfilmswerecharacterizedforerosionresistance,mechanicalandthermalstability.Fortheapplicationonturbineblades,conventionaltechniqueswereused.Itwasfoundthatfortheincorporationofnanosilicaintotheepoxymatrix,surfacemodificationwasessential.Besides,incorporationofsilicaresultedinconsiderableimprovementintheresistancetoerosivewearandalifespanimprovementofaround36percentwasachieved.SimilartrendwasobservedfortheShoreDhardnesswhichincreasesfrom60forthevirgincoatingto70forthenanocompositecoating.
