Research on Financial Decision Making for Suppliers in a Coal Supply Chain Dominated by Sea Ports

摘要

Coal is a main energy in China, and the sea ports play a dominant role in China through "North Coal to South Transportation". As largely decreasing the recent coal demand, the upstream suppliers are facing for more and more operational risk so that their financing decision is always very difficult. On such a research line, this paper mainly discusses the financing decision-making of the upstream suppliers. This paper analyzes that if the upstream coal suppliers are at the funds shortage and have to borrow necessary money, then they may adapt two different financing modes: (1) inventory pledge, and (2) private lending. For the two financing modes, we take the most revenue of the upstream coal supplier as an objective function, and choose the credit audit time, inventory pledge rate, loan interest rate as some decision variables, thus we can establish a financing decision-making model for the upstream coal suppliers. Based on this, we respectively calculate the optimal amount of financing under the two financing modes, and also obtain the optimal coal order quantities. The methodology and results of this paper provide some necessary theory for the upstream coal suppliers, and specifically, the numerical computation is very useful for setting up the financing decision-making of the upstream coal suppliers dominated by sea ports.
