Study on the Cubic Curve Relationship between CEO Education and Wage of Industrial Workers: Evidence from Chinese Listed Manufacturing Companies

摘要

The link between CEO education and wage of industrial workers (WIW) is the core problem to be investigated. Solving such a problem by adopting upper echelons theory can not only theoretically enrich the understanding of determination mechanism of WIW by providing a new perspective of CEO education, but also practically provide guidance on improving the effectiveness of WIW under the background of Chinese traditional culture. Empirical analysis with the multiple regression models based on OLS reveals a new finding that, there is a cubic curve relationship between CEO education attainment and WIW. Compared with previous work which has only indicated the relationship between CEO educationand executive compensation to a good degree, the effect of CEO education on WIW has not been explored. The proposed model results can be verified by adopting grouping regression as the alternative empirical method, or taking the listed companies belonging to financial industry or real estate industry as the alternative sample to replace the one selected from the listed manufacturing companies in this study.
