Effects of Fly Ash Content on Properties of Cement Paste Backfilling

Fly ash has been considered as an ideal raw material component of cement paste backfilling (CPB) due to its good pozzolanic activity. In this study, the effects of fly ash content (340–420 kg/m3) on the compressive strength, resistivity and microscopic characteristics of CPB were investigated. The results indicated that at the early curing age, the resistivity decreased with increasing fly ash content, while the compressive strength did not vary significantly; at the curing times of 7 d, 14 d and 28 d, the compressive strength exhibited an increasing trend because of the higher content of reaction products and the compaction of pore structure, and the resistivity also increased due to the decreased ionic concentrations of pore solution and the greater resistance to transporting current through the pore network system. Apparently, there existed a linear relationship between the compressive strength and the resistivity of CPB samples.
