IN his book, The Revolt of the Masses, the Spanish philosopher,Jose Ortega y Gasset, distinguished between mass man and aristocraticman, defining the latter as one who struggles to excel and theformer as one who is simply content to take life as it is. It seems to methat University College students fall within the definition of Ortega'saristocratic man for all of them, regardless of their objective in college,are witness to a desire for self-improvement and are not content merelyto drift along the tide of life like a cork on a fast-running stream.
