An optimization scheme for the feedback gain synthesis of processes modeled as convex polytopic system in the Takagi-Sugeno framework is presented. The structure of the Takagi-Sugeno description is exploited, such that after the common initial synthesis based on linear matrix inequalities an optimization procedure that is numerically less extensive is proposed. It partially employs the solution from the initial design to ensure stability and respects the imposed performance from the initial design process. The resulting feedback gains from the optimization may differ from the initially derived gains, and are capable of increasing the performance in the presented case studies. The optimization procedure is applied to the synthesis of a Takagi-Sugeno proportional multi-integral observer for fault reconstruction of an inverted pendulum and a wind turbine subject to noise.
