The sustainable management of forests needs the application of a complex of actions in order to amplify their multiple functions. The description and demarcation of regions of provenance for the production and utilization of forest reproductive materials is an important action, necessary for the enhancement of legal frame and to regulate at national level (O.G. no. 11/2004 approved trough the Law no. 161/2004), complying with the European Council Directive (EEC) Nr. 105/99 and with the requirements of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Scheme. There were identified, described in the annexes and demarcated on the map the regions of provenance for basic material from the "Selected" category for all native forest species with relevance in the forest area structure, and for the basic material from the "Identified source" category in all stands with extreme conditions for the forest vegetation: at the superior and inferior altitudinal levels (sub-alpine and grassland levels) on pseudogleic and sandy soils. The regions of provenance have been established and demarcated according to the scientifical knowledge and of the accumulated data from genetic, ecology and connected fields, correlated with national and international requirements in this field. The practical implementation will be done with the publication of the "Regions of provenance for the production and utilization of forest reproductive materials in Romania" book. This publication will be distributed to the specialists, natural persons and organizations involved in the production, internal trade and utilization of forest reproductive materials.
