September's issue included an infographic by Dolly Setton that explained the atomic elements that make up the human body. I loved "Cosmic Recipe for Earthlings" so much that I immediately used it in preparing an activity for two groups of Cool Girls Science and Art Club: grades one through three and four through five. We discussed the 60 atomic elements that help our bodies function, and the birth of the universe and how stars are born and die. Next, the girls paired up and drew outlines of their bodies on long pieces of paper, which they filled in with symbols of their own design representing the activities of elements such as phosphorus, sulfur, calcium and iron. Thanks for such good material that can be easily adapted for kids who love science and art.
