Speculation on our Facebook page showed many readers doubted No. 16: "Last year, Oxford geneticist Bryan Sykes sequenced DNA from alleged yeti hair samples and got a perfect species match to an ancient Scandinavian polar bear." True! Sykes says his test found the supposed cryptid hair sample was a 100 percent match to a polar bear jawbone from Svalbard in Norway, up to 120,000 years old. (Other scientists hesitate to endorse the finding until the results have been published and peer-reviewed.)
