Every year teams of high school students from nearly 100 countries gather to compete in the International Mathematical Olympiad. This elite competition consists of just six fiendishly difficult problems, administered over two days. In the United States alone, 250,000 students take the initial qualifying test, sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America; six students are ultimately selected for the U.S. team. Hard Problems, a recent documentary directed by George Paul Csicsery (hardproblemsmovie.com), follows the American team members in the 2006 competition.
