The recession slowed the pace of progress in material handling technology, but a rebounding economy has spurred growth for new productivity-boosting systems. The material handling industry has bounced back well after the recession, says Marvin Logan of Bastian Solutions. Logan says some of these gee-whiz products are beginning to show up in DCs: 1. Pick-to-display technology. Logan calls it the next generation of pick-to-light. The picker carries a device that displays a photo of the item to be picked. 2. New scanners. Workers soon might wear micro-scanning devices on their wrists.
