CEDA's been working on changing dredged material's image, recognising that it's mainly clean natural sediments with only a small proportion of the total volume dredged annually being contaminated. As a result, dredged 'spoil' is now known as dredged 'material'. Dredging organisations consider this material a resource not a waste and, since the term 'dumping' is often associated with waste, it's now been replaced by 'disposal'.
