摘要

With today's aging population, monitor ing healthcare systems represents an important element of the healthcare issue. It has become increasingly vital to monitor the health condition of elderly people and share the information with remote care providers or hospitals, especially as more and more senior citizens choose to live by themselves. The abil ity to monitor the status of a patient living in a remote location alleviates a huge burden from the system in terms of cost and logistics. One technology that is expected to play a key role in the patient monitoring arena is body area networks (BANs). BANs are highly localized wireless networks that can potentially support a wide variety of medical applications, from monitoring how an implant is functioning, to tracking the health of senior citizens, to performing state-of-the-art endoscopic exams.
