CANADA is a fairly laid-back place. On the morning of May 25th, a Friday, Jus-tin Trudeau, the prime minister, looked relaxed, dressed in jeans, having walked to his office opposite the parliament building in Ottawa. Mr Trudeau talked to The Economist about the trade negotiations with the United States, explaining that his job was to stand up for Canadian interests, that President Donald Trump understood this, and that the two had "a very good working relationship".
