Contrarianism and controversy have long been the hallmarks of Peter Thiel, the co-founder of PayPal and Palan-tir, and the first outside investor in Face-book. He has made headlines advocating seasteading (building new cities in or under the oceans), urging students to drop out of education to start companies and providing financial support for Ron Paul's libertarian run for the White House. His first book, though, is full of common sense, which may be for the best.
